The next release of yab
The next release of yab will have a yab binary and libyab.so runtime library thanks to Jessica Hamilton.
What does this do for yab?
For yab script files, there is no change. The scripts run as they always have.
For programs built with the BuildFactory, the binary is about 1/8th as big as it used to be. This should allow us to add binary yab programs to the haikuports repository and therefore get them in HaikuDepot.
The next version also will include an r+ ( read/write) version of the open command and a library that makes it easy to use this random access method for data storage.
I am working on adding all the yab command information to the help view in the IDE. This will eventually allow us to get rid of the " Short Command Help" .
To check out the current state of yab, get http://yab.orgfree.com/GetLatest-yab.zip and run the script. If you already have the script, you still need to download it again as there were changes due to the library file.
Enjoy

Re: The next release of yab
Interesting, I'll have a look. Do you recommend removing the yab hpkgs before installing via the script?

This isn't necessary. the script places a YAB folder in the directory it was launched from, or your home directory if doubble clicked. It allows you to chose to install the binary and lib or not. if installed it places them in the config/non-packaged tree.
The IDE uses the settings/yab-ide/ide-settings file, and the BuildFactory is still in /boot/home/yab_work/BuildFactory these need to be deleted ( they will be replaced when yab-ide is run for the first time ) one could make a script to delete these and launch the yab install of your choice.
Do not launch the weong ide and attempt to build a binary, strange things could happen.
